Blood and Thunder
“In this world men struggle and suffer vainly, finding pleasure only in the bright madness of battle … Let me live deep while I live; let me know the rich juices of red meat and stinging wine on my palate, the hot embrace of white arms, the mad exultation of battle when the blue blades flame and crimson, and I am content. Let teachers and philosophers brood over questions of reality and illusion. I know this: if life is illusion, then I am no less an illusion, and being thus, the illusion is real to me. I live, I burn with life, I love, I slay, and am content.”
— Robert E Howard, Queen of the Black Coast
Welcome to Blood and Thunder, a sword and sorcery campaign set within the Dread Sea Dominions of ‘Beasts and Barbarians’. This campaign will be very much in the vein of Robert E Howard’s sword and sorcery tales, Leiber’s Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser, Wagner’s Kane and a peppering of Moorcock’s Eternal Champion. The campaign itself is designed to be very episodic in nature (as many of the tales referenced were) and will have a sandbox component as well. Certainly I will weave the occasional plot thread in that may intertwine with a larger theme, but in the end… it will be you – the player, that will determine where this campaign goes.
Magic is not an everyday occurrence and is VERY dangerous when present. Such power takes a toll and the toll will always be collected within the Dominions. Therefore, ONLY ONE ‘Sorcerer’ will be allowed within the party. Further notes on character options, archetypes, edges, etc. can be located at Game Rules and info.
Feel free to browse throughout the site. The wiki is fairly substantial and is set up in a way to hopefully provide you with everything you need to learn about the setting and to give you background on creating a character. Please feel free to reach out with any other questions you may have as well as we begin this journey.
Welcome to a long, lost age of High Adventure!!!
